Are we Americans spoiled?

We live in the most prosperous nation on earth. The economy has been down for what, 2 years??!! And so many people coming out saying we're finished, blaming free markets and calling for socialism. 2 years?! There isn't a nation on the face of the earth that doesn't ever hit a bump in the economic road. Are we so used to incredible prosperity, that a any downturn will cause us all to lose heart?
