Is it possible to disable game data installation?

my friend has a 20GB PS3 and has ran out of space because he has many downloaded games from PSN. Now he bought a MGS 4 game that installs a hugh chunk of game data that he doesnt have enough space left in his internal hard disk. Is it possible to disable game data from installing on the internal hard drive?
