There is food etc. You can have a visitor visa for 6 months then go to New Zeaalnad or bali somewhere cheap and come back for another 6 month visitor visa butif you don't have enough money to survive they may turn you around at the airport. If you are under 30 why not go for a working visa. for a year. You dont have to work. Yes you can drive through any state but you need an address here to register your vehicle so you need to get to know someone whose address you can use. You need a return ticket often you can change the date for no extra charge so make that enquiry with the airline you book with before purchasing the ticket. Our dollar is strong and the pound weak so you will find things extra expensive. Fuel is about $1.30 a litre but you pay more in the outback maybe $1.60 . Car rego includes 3rd party insurance which has nothing to do with the car it's about if someone is hurt . so car insurance is seperate. then you probably want to be in The RACQ breakdown service.
