Is it a good or bad thing to be mistaken as another ethnicity?

I'm actually Southeast Asian, Thai, but since I'm 6ft tall and rather pale I'm almost always mistaken as East Asian, nearly everyone thinks I'm Northern Chinese. Complications arise in Bangkok some people speak English to me first they think I'm a tourist with $$.
