How did the constitutional monarchy limit the power of the monarchy in england.?
The development of a Constitutional monarchy was a slow process. The first limitation on the absolute power of the monarchy was Magna Carta, in 1215. Of course during the Commonwealth, there was no monarch at all. When Charles ii was restored to the throne he came back claiming the divine right of Kings, as did James who followed him. People became so sick of this that, when James died Parliament invited William of Orange to be king but did so on the basis of the Bill of Rights. That act of parliament cirscribed the powers of the monarch, and was the real beginning of modern constitutional monarchy.
